Collaboration is the cornerstone of musical exploration and development. Creating actively with others is a way to enrich our own lives, and those of the people we connect with. Rest/Noise is a vehicle for collaboration.
Rest/Noise is a performing arts collective that takes its name from the quintessential read on 20th-Century music The Rest is Noise by Alex Ross; this name was gratefully approved by Mr. Ross. It focuses on the interplay between contemporary music — with a heavy percussion influence — and contemporary artists of any medium. Seeking to bring together diverse artists from the Greater Boston Area, Rest/Noise has an affinity for the work of artists such as David Lang, Michael Gordon, electronic music, Steve Reich, John Cage, Radiohead, Sigur Rós, Explosions in the Sky, Robert Honstein, Jordan Munson, and more. rest/noise is comprised of individuals from across many of boston's largest music schools including The Boston Conservatory at Berklee, New England Conservatory, UMASS Lowell, and UMASS Amherst.
This fall Rest/Noise will be touring Michael Gordon’s Timber throughout the Greater Boston Area. The costs associated with presenting, producing, and licensing all aspects of performance are extensive (details in the link provided). please consider donating to local music/live music/percussion music by visiting this link.
